The Onion: Gasping, out of shape Olympians beg IOC to postpone games.

The 1000k GRVAT (Great Virtual Race Across Tennessee) has its first winner. Ben Chan’s head explodes.

Podcast recommendation: The American Scandal series by Wondery about Lance Armstrong is excellent. Full of information I hadn’t heard before.

Speaking of doping, the 50k race walker who got busted for EPO and steroids had his appeal rejected. And not to dwell on this but yes, there’s still a damn 50k race walk in the Olympics.

Earlier this week I wrote about a hiker who was mistaken for a turkey and shot by hunter while on a well-used trail in Missouri. Then I got this message from reader Ryan: The hiker on the Missouri trail was actually a trailrunner in our local community.
Collapsed lung and punctured lung. Recovering well and the bad ass was awake for the whole surgery!

Trailrunner/Roche: Free-flowing, feel-based long runs still have a place in structured training plans.

The “e-bikes on the trails” debate heats up in Tahoe. I dunno, I haven’t had more bad experiences with e-bikes than regular MTB riders. Strongest emotion would be jealousy…they look like a blast!

iRunFar: Q&A with Maggie Guterl, post Cocodona. I’m a huge fan of Maggie and can’t wait to see what she does next.

Here’s an article in Runner’s World about what a group of women is doing to combat harassment on the trails. Some good messages in there, but I wish that instead of aiming for clicks and outrage, some of these publications would instead get in the mindset of “would I make the same points and accusations to a group of new runners?” Of course, there are sh*theads out there who harass women and make catcalls. Those people exist, their actions need to be addressed, and they need to be excised from our sport. But…when broad, sweeping generalizations about rampant Harassment is made about trail running, the authors are telling young girls and women that the space is scary and dangerous and is not a safe space for them. I’m not proposing sweeping it under the rug or hiding the issue, but how ’bout a little restraint with the hyperbole?

There’s a new Canadian record for 45+ women at the 100 mile distance. Damn, Viktoria Brown ran a 15:24!
