Amidst the course of an interview last month on an alternative radio station, Trump fawned over Putin in a statement that read: “I went in yesterday and saw a TV screen. I said”This is genius.’ Putin declares a significant part of … Ukraine. Putin declares the country to be independent. Wow! That’s amazing. That’s why Putin is now saying, “It’s independent,’ which is a huge portion of Ukraine. I asked, ‘How clever could that be?’ Putin is going to go into the country and act as an peacekeeper. That’s the best peace force. We could make use of it to defend our southern border.”
Peace for good
Trump continued by declaring: “There were more army tanks than I’ve seen in my life. They’ll ensure peace for good. But think about it. This is a man who’s extremely knowledgeable, and I’m very familiar with him. Very well.”
Trump’s comments were criticised by two Republicans members of the House select committee that is investigating the January 6 Capitol protest, who are one of only a handful of Republicans that have consistently vocally critical on the previous president. Liz Cheney tweeted that Trump’s remarks “aids our adversaries. Trump’s motives don’t appear to be in line with the interests of the United States of America.”
